Day 1-3: Gold Coast Glitz and Hinterland Tranquility

Start your journey by heading south to the heart of the Gold Coast. Spend a couple of days soaking up the iconic beaches. Park your campervan at a beachside holiday park in Burleigh Heads or Coolangatta and enjoy the surf culture, or head to the famous Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary. The Gold Coast is a perfect launchpad for day trips into the magnificent hinterland. Swap the surfboards for hiking boots and drive into the lush green world of Springbrook National Park. Walk the Twin Falls Circuit, explore the Natural Bridge and its enchanting glow worm cave, and be rewarded with spectacular views at the Best of All Lookout.

Campervan-friendly tip: The roads leading into the hinterland can be winding. Take your time and enjoy the scenic drive. Many caravan parks in the area offer excellent facilities for campervans.

Day 4-6: Sunshine Coast Serenity

It’s time to head north! Your next destination is the laid-back beauty of the Sunshine Coast. Drive past the Glass House Mountains, a stunning series of volcanic peaks, and make your way to Noosa. Base yourself at a campsite near Noosa Heads or Noosaville. Explore Noosa National Park on foot, keeping an eye out for koalas in the trees, and find a secluded spot to swim at one of the park’s many coves. For a more relaxed day, browse the boutiques of Hastings Street or time your visit to catch the famous Eumundi Markets. From Noosa, you can also easily venture to the hinterland towns of Montville and Maleny for a taste of country life, artisan shops, and stunning views of the coast.

Campervan-friendly tip: Book your campsite in advance, especially in peak seasons, as popular spots on the Sunshine Coast fill up quickly.

Day 7-8: Fraser Coast Wonders

Continue your journey north to the Fraser Coast, the gateway to the world’s largest sand island, K’gari (Fraser Island). Park your campervan at a holiday park in Hervey Bay or Rainbow Beach. From here, you can book a day tour to explore the island’s incredible sights, including the crystal-clear waters of Lake McKenzie, the Maheno shipwreck, and the towering sand dunes. If you’re visiting between July and November, Hervey Bay is a prime location for whale watching, as it’s a key stop on the humpback whale migration route. This is an unforgettable experience!

Campervan-friendly tip: K’gari (Fraser Island) requires a 4WD vehicle to drive on, so it’s best to join a guided tour for this part of your trip. Leave your campervan at a secure campsite and enjoy the tour stress-free.

Day 9-10: Returning to Helensvale via the Scenic Route

Begin your final leg back towards Helensvale. Instead of taking the direct highway, choose a more scenic inland route. Consider a stop at the Mary Valley, a lush green area known for its country charm and local produce. Or, take a detour to the charming town of Tamborine Mountain in the Gold Coast Hinterland. This allows you to explore the “other side” of the hinterland with its unique Gallery Walk, boutique wineries, and more rainforest walking tracks. Enjoy one last home-cooked meal in your campervan and reflect on a journey filled with unforgettable sights before returning to your starting point in Helensvale.
